YELLOW BILLED PINTAIL-BROWN PINTAIL Anas georgica spinicauda

Falklands Islands resident breeder, 'Grey' or 'Coast' Teal. Length: 48 - 53 cm (19 - 21 inches). Looks a lot like the Yellow-billed teal but much larger and slimmer with a distinctly longer neck and more pointed tail. Uncommon in the Falklands, most likely to be seen in Lafonia, but is nervous and shy. Predominantly a freshwater duck but might be seen in sheltered coastal waters during winter.

A. g. spinicauda ranges as far north as Columbia in South America, is common in Argentina and Chile includingy Tierra del Fuego.
